I do not agree with the assertion that same-sex couples should have the right to marry. Although we live in a liberal world where open-mindedness guides decision, I believe that gay marriage is indecent, unorthodox, unconventional, and above all, it goes against the laws of nature. People have to agree that lesbianism or homosexuality is a trend that has not been in existence for many years. It is also critical to appreciate the fact that homosexuality at one time was regarded as a mental problem. It, therefore, means that it did not have a place in the culture of the American people. Marriage is an institution that should be held in the highest regard. It should be a union between a man and a woman for companion and reproduction reasons. It is common knowledge that gay couples cannot procreate. It, therefore, beats logic why a man would want to marry another man or a woman wanting to engage with a woman. The institution of marriage should be respected and not used to sanitize immoral acts such as same-sex marriage. Although the many states have legalized the same-sex marriage, it is important to appreciate that the United States was founded on a strong religious foundation. As believers in God, our constitution must always reflect the values portrayed in the Bible and other religious teachings. Many Christians, Muslims, and Conservatives continue to oppose this form of marriage because it goes against the social order. Although everybody has a right to choose their sexual orientation, legalization of marriage makes it a moral act. It is in this regard that the nation should review its marriage policy and possibly relook this decision that threatens the moral fabric of the nation.
