Mean and median are essential in analyzing the salaries of employees. I am interested in working for an organization that promotes healthcare service delivery among people in the country. The employees in this sector receive different salaries according to their experiences and departments ( Payscale, 2020)

The organization's distribution of wages includes; $15/hour for a Data Officer, $20 per hour for an Operation Officer, $18/hour for the Accountant, $30/hour for the Assistant Director, and $25/hour for the Programs Specialist. Other officers in the sector include a Care Coach who earns $15 per hour, a Communications Officer who makes $15 per hour, a Healthcare Networking Specialist whose salary is $18 per hour, a Policy Specialist whose salary is $18 per hour, and a Director who earns $45 per hour.

The mean salary in this case requires an addition of the values before dividing the answer with ten ($15 + $20 + $18 + $30 + $25 + $15 + $15 + $25 + $18 + $45 = $226 ÷ 10 = $22.6). The process of identifying the median requires and arrangement from the least pay to the highest one ($15, $15, $18, $18 , $20 , $25, $25, $30, $45). Finding the median therefore involves calculation of an average of the two numbers in the gray boxes ($18 + $20 = $38 ÷ 2), and this results in $19.

Median is the better measure of central tendency because of its ability to remain unaltered ( Lund Research Limited, 2018) . Changes of any kind in terms of salaries may sometimes fail to affect the median. For instance, an increment of wages for the employees who earn the highest incomes does not shift the arrangement and leaves the median at $19. The use of mean as a preferable measure of central tendency may not be advisable because of its inability to remain the same whenever one value changes in the available data points ( Lund Research Limited, 2018) . For instance, whenever there is a change in any value above, the mean cannot remain $22.6. Therefore, the above example serves best in showing that the median is the one that is in the best central place. In case skewing occurs, the mean always changes.
