Media has become part of the lifeline in modern society. People across the globe utilize media for various reasons, and this has had several effects on the societies and the lives of people. The medium of media comes in various forms which include television, radio, newspaper and the most recent being the internet and social media. Throughout the country, people utilize various forms of media to get access to information or do other forms of businesses such as marketing. While people have argued that media, and especially the social media has eroded the cultures of societies, the mass benefits of media in the community cannot be underrated thus the need to promote media utilization and increase the democratic space as well as freedom of expression. Media helps in the access to information, promotes transparency and democracy and provide opportunities for business growth thus needs to be supported in society.
Media is the main source of information that young people can rely on to understand the affairs of the nation. Social media plays a significant role in the promotion of access to information within a short time thus providing young people with the opportunity to understand certain important issues of the nation ( Utz, 2016 ). It is, therefore, necessary that leaders promote and facilitate the use of media within the community as a means of creating awareness to the people. Social media should be allowed to have its impacts on the community and the leaders need to spend more resources in promoting and ensuring that every member of the community has access to information through either of the mediums of media. Limiting the media freedom and curtailing people’s rights to access media can, therefore, deny people the opportunity to receive information.

Media plays a key role in promoting transparency and democracy in society. Young people have the right to be heard and to express their displeasure by any form of governance that is oppressive and does not care for the needs of the people. Media and especially social media provides space for young people to express their views and communicate with their leaders on issues that need to be tackled in society ( Couldry, 2015 ). Democracy and freedom of expression is a right of every citizen and should not be curtailed on any ground. People should be left to express their views through various media platforms, and the members of the community are urged to reject any leader who wants to limit their right to express themselves through media. Leaders must fight for the rights and democratic space of the citizens.
Media also plays a crucial role in offering an opportunity for the citizens to grow and expand their business. Media is the main site where young entrepreneurs can market and expand their businesses. Media should, therefore, be left to operate independently without the interference from anyone. Media freedom is essential for a democratic society because any modern democracy enjoys media freedom ( Couldry, 2015 ). As leaders, we need to promote media freedom and expand it so that the young people can utilize it to grow their businesses.
Despite the vast benefits of media in the community, the opponents have always recommended the need to limit media freedom and restrict the use of media by people on the ground that it is used to promote violence. However, sufficient evidence shows that media has been at the forefront of promoting peace and unity during clashes or community wars. Media, therefore, remains a significant tool that can be used to promote transparency, democracy, and access to information. Without media and media freedom, the community will stagnate in several issues. All leaders, both elected and appointed must support media growth into the community, and the citizens need to reject and condemn leaders who still call for the limitation of the media rights and freedom.
