Before the emergence of the internet, the primary forms of media communication were mainly through television and radio. People would spend hours seated on their television watching or listening to a program or news updates. However, the emergence of the internet has changed everything as media communication has become diversified. People can now have web video, YouTube, Facebook, and other social media platforms to communicate. While it is true that this has led to increased communication amongst people, studies have demonstrated that media consumption is no longer universal as it was many years ago before the digital age.
The media communication has become diversified with people spending much of their time on the internet watching videos and reading online contents. People no longer share common text as compared in the past years when there was no media diversification. Our exposure to media and the content that people look for in the media has completely changed. People go to the internet not to read about some crucial information but to watch some obscene video. At the same time, media diversification has led to addiction amongst the youth who spend almost any time they are free on the internet. People can now post any information on Facebook, and it reaches a wide range of people within minutes. By doing so, theyfasten the rate of passage of information from one person to another. However, the issue lies in the media consumption which is not as universal as it was before. People do not share a common context, and everyone has a choice to choose what to consume in the media.

Media diversification has led to increased communication amongst people, but it has come as a challenge based on the freedom of choice on what media content to consume. As a result, there has been a lack of universality experience, which affects the context of communication. Having known that, I would still like to know more about the topic. How does media diversification affect how people consume the media content? How does it lead to audience fragmentation? What is the impact of communications technology and media on diversity? What is the effect of diversified media on youth?
The question I choose to explore is the impacts of diversified media have on youth. Ever since the growth of the internet and social media, most people who have been affected are the youth. Studies have shown that over 70% of the youth use social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and other media platforms. Old media platforms such as television and radio have seen a reduced number of audiences amongst the youth. Youth have gotten into social media addiction, with most people spending a lot of their free time on the media than to read a book. The content of the media content has also affected the youth adversely. Materials such as pornography which is easily accessible on the online media have corrupted the minds of the youth leading to the poor social outcome. While it has led to the faster passage of communication, media diversification and the introduction of the social media has had negative impacts on the youth. The keywords that I can use to search for the research question include modern media on young people, social media and youth, media diversification and youth, impacts of social media, and how social media affect young people.
