SUBJECT: On the State of the Bureau
The role of the senior intelligence analyst at the bureau is to retrieve stored information concerning intelligence from information systems, to question suspects for intelligence issues, and to create immediate and future responses of the bureau to intelligence. The intelligence analyst is also concerned with the production of reports as well as studies founded on the gathered intelligence information. They also aid operational personnel in the attainment of their goals investigation as well as strategies of national security. The duties of the same personnel further involve the maintenance of awareness concerning threats that might emerge both abroad and domestically, the identification and cultivation of intelligence assets, and the designing of development and training programs in line with the objectives of the bureau. Lastly, the role of the senior intelligence analyst is to assess the operations of the bureau for the identification of administrative issues and the provision of recommendations that would amend the identified liabilities.
The role of the Cyber Branch Division of the FBI is to deal with the threat of cybercrime that has been one of the most significant threats to national intelligence for the past few decades. The Division has taken significant steps in identifying and dealing with instances of cybercrime, especially on the global scene. Most of the activities involved in the process have been disruptions and dismantles of the plots by cyber criminals who attempt to attack the public of government assets. While it is true that the Division has managed to deal with this type of crime, cybercrime is still a threat to national intelligence considering that the ability of the bureau to address new challenges has been declining over time. Statistics indicate a reduction in the number of dismantles and disruptions that the Division has managed since 2014. Precisely, it managed to intercept approximately 2500 cases of cybercrime in 2014 and only 262 in 2017 (The FBI-Audit Division, 2015; 2017). In the in-between-period, the figures have also dwindled significantly since the Division intercepted 510 cases in 2015 and 259 in 2016. It should also be noted that the bureau also failed to attain its target of 500 disruptions of activities of cybercrime that it had set for the 2016 and 2017 fiscal years (Marks, 2018).

The FBI should step its intelligence gathering practices considering that the US security and that of the globe are at stake. To attain this, the bureau should have implemented all the recommendations of the Strategic Execution Team concerning such strategies by 2020 (Mueller, 2008). The bureau should also have new operating guidelines by the same year updated by the Attorney General to meet the growing changes in the nature of security threats that the US and the world face.
Finally, the bureau is looking forward to private partnership to ensure that it increases its regulation on cybercrime. It is recommended that the bureau consider collaborating with stakeholders of companies in the private sector. The reason for this recommendation is the fact that these companies represent the front line players with the same interest of curbing cybercrime as the bureau because of the economic effects they carry on their businesses (Presidential Innovation Fellows, 2018).
