The source explores the level of discrimination that people diagnosed with mental health condition face in the justice system. According to Lovett et al. (2019), people with mental health problem are incarcerated more than their healthy counterparts. The trend is even more in Africa, where mental health knowledge by individual working in the justice system is somewhat constricted. The source is integral to this study since it offers statistic of discrimination of people with mental health condition in the justice systems outside the United States. The research also contributes to the body of knowledge that demonstrates approaches that ought to be adopted in a bid to make the justice system more conscious of the mentally ill patient’s needs. The authors have the professional credibility to write about mental health discrimination in the criminal justice system because they have completed a myriad of studies on the subject and related disciplines. Notably, some are affiliated to the Department of Health Policy and Management. The study elucidated that most provider paid little attention to the criminal justice system. The study will be integral in contributing to the proposed research as it will provide invaluable insight on what stakeholder perceive about the stature of mental health discrimination in the justice system. The source shows that the population of people with mental health condition in the United States is particularly high, and the number is even higher in the United States justice system. As a means to address the issue of mental health discrimination in the penal system, the study is recommending the usage of mental health court, which will be able to pass rulings based on an individual’s mental health state. This source will be crucial to the research as it will be contributing to prospective solutions to the problem.
