Article “Why People Still Believe Climate Change Is Fake... and Why We Know They're Wrong.”
The article is authored by Professor Mike Rogerson, a senior lecturer in geology and geography and an environmental geochemist. Prof. Rogerson has taken part in groundbreaking research projects in earth system science and affirmed his credibility on climate change matters. The article debunks the claims that climate change is a hoax. The author fronts the argument that climate change is a crisis that requires urgent global attention and dismisses claims that climate change is a myth. The subject of climate change has dominated public debate in the recent decade and many people, including global leaders, have expressed their scepticism about the realities of global warming. In this article, Prof. Rogerson reviews some of the claims made by those who believe climate change is unreal and uses empirical statistics and evidenced to impeach those claims. Some of the false claims include the notion that climate change is just part of the natural cycle, climate change is not as bad as people perceive it, that the heavy rains indicate that the earth is not getting hotter and that the models used to measure climate change cannot be relied upon. The article reinforced my belief that climate change is real and could endanger human habitation on the planet. The article has also shown how people use deceptive statistics to spread falsehoods about various phenomena. Many of the above claims are anchored on deceptive statistics, which the author has deconstructed using his geological expertise and knowledge. In my current position, reliance on statistics and truth to make inferences and decisions is paramount. Statistics are collected and reviewed through primary triangulation before they become the premises of any claims.
