Milgram's Experiment
Milgram's experiment conducted to find out the willingness of people to obey was ethical. The conclusion above can be backed up by the fact that Milgram did not physically induce pain on individuals during the experiment. His principal aim was to determine the extent to which the people could obey regardless of the pain experienced by those to whom it was induced. Besides, the experiment is justified in that it used volunteers who willingly accepted to participate in the investigation. Despite the trauma experienced by the teachers during the experiment, it was upon them to see that the student was in pain from the experiments and to decide to stop, which most of them did not.
Had I been incorporated in the experiment as the teacher, my response and the willingness to shock the student based on background factors would be varied. For instance, it would almost look criminal and sad to jolt a female student. Generally, women tend to be delicate compared to men (as perceived by many people). Therefore, I would most likely not jolt a student if they were female than if they were male. Besides, if a student were older than me, I would fear their reaction after the experiment, and therefore I was likely not to apply the punishment to a more senior student than myself. Other factors, such as religion and race, would be constant for any of the students.

However, it is important to note my administration of the punishment would be strictly based on my conscience, if I find what I was doing as of right ow wrong in my judgment. I do not like to see people suffer, and therefore it was unlikely that I could induce pain on someone regardless of other background factors.
Social Mobility
Social mobility varies in almost all families and their generations. The variation is majorly brought about by factors such as parental guidance and nurturing, level of education, and the association among members of the families across the generations. My family, just like any other family, has experienced shifts in social mobility between the upward mobility and downward mobility based on the choices that were made by individual members of the family.
My family happens to have been in the business industry for such a long time. My parents told me that the businesses owned had been passed among generations for the past seven decades. In one of the instances, when the company was taken over, the heirs were drunkards and had poor management skills. As a result, the businesses almost collapsed. With good management and relations after passing over in the late '90s, the family experienced its highest profits. The relationship between my family and several other families that own businesses has contributed significantly to the upward mobility enjoyed most of the time.
It is worth noting that the businesses' success depended entirely on who passed the company and to whom it was given. The parental influence was vital in the orientation of social mobility.
Influence of gender, race, and ethnicity on opportunities and obstacles
Gender, race, and ethnicity determine the number of opportunities and play a critical role in overcoming the challenges and individual faces in life. The emergence of gender equality issues could determine who likely one would be considered for an opportunity. Stereotypes such as considering some gender-specific options or belonging to a particular community are regarded as either low or high class depending on the community setups and orientations.
With the changing times, gender, race, or ethnicity should not be a factor in the seizing of opportunities and facing obstacles. A particular gender's thoughts being suited to do specific jobs or handling specific jobs are almost obsolete. One's race or ethnicity is unlikely to influence how people work or perceive life. Besides, we should not measure people's ability by their gender, race, or ethnicity but rather by personality and ability to deliver quality. For example, if I am faced with a challenge, say my car got a flat tire as I was driving, then I have to get out and address the flat tire to continue with my journey without thinking that I am male or female most mechanics are males.
In conclusion, as much as there are beliefs about gender, race, or ethnicity when it comes to seizing opportunities and problem solving, one must remain conscious of the issue at hand other than what people say and generalizations of gender, race, or ethnicity that have always existed.
Factors that influence choices in serious relationships
Many people say that love goes beyond what meets the eye and that 'love is blind,' but there are always what people want, or what the people they live with, say parents or guardians wish to be looking for someone to date. Certain beliefs guide serious relationships. For example, most people believe that females need to be younger than males in a relationship. It is likely that when two people are catching up and realize there is a significant age difference, the chances of dating are few. Factors such as religion, social class, gender, and ethnicity are essential to consider. Dating is all about preference; someone who believes homosexuality is not right is most likely to date someone of the opposite gender. Besides, some ethnicities, races, and religions would not allow intermarriages.
If I am looking for someone for a serious relationship, I will consider factors that would bring conflict of interest when dating or with my family. For example, being born from a religious family and brought up religious values, I will have to date a religious person. Besides, I believe dating should be between people of the opposite sex, and therefore I will choose a person of the opposite gender for a date. Ethnicity and race will not be essential considerations because I believe that people have personalities not tied to their races or ethnicities. The education and social class level will also be my key considerations because behaviors could be connected to the two. A much lower education level or social class or very high levels of the same would not be suitable for a serious relationship for me.
In conclusion, while dating, optimism takes a more significant part; we always believe that the relationships will be long term and lead to marriages. Therefore, factors such as religion, social class, gender, gender, education, age, among others, are essential to consider
Most impactful assignment
Milgram's experiment assignment greatly impacted me. In his fifth experiment, 65% of the people used in his experiment continued to induce pain even when the student gave the wrong answers were rather shocking. The questions of to what extent we should obey are all over my mind. Those who continued to increase the pain probably did that due to fear that they had to do what they did. However, their actions are not justified because they had the option of making decisions themselves. It is human understanding not to induce pain on another individual even if they wronged us.
The skills learned in this assignment will help me make the right judgments. Even though we should obey, we should not be slaves to obedience. It is essential to use the moral values to make decisions other than to be pinned down to what the masses believe are the right things to do. If I am at the workplace in my career development, I have to listen to what my seniors say. However, before making decisions and choices based on the instructions they give, I should make my judgments and discern whether the decisions I make are right or wrong according to my conscience and moral beliefs. Most importantly, the crowd should not determine who you become or what you do.
In conclusion, everyone experiences social control, whether through obedience or conformity. However, we should not let the social power hinder our decision-making abilities. It is important to be sound in decision making and not be blinded by who or what we should obey or what other people are doing.
