It strengthens and organizes patient safety measures improves the confidence of the community on the quality of care offered. It helps in reducing and managing risk, and it may help in the reduction of cost relating to insurance liability (joint commission,2020). Accreditation ensures that the best quality of care is rendered to patients.

In 2019 Chapel; hill N.C-UNC hospital was put on probation by the joint commission. Several issues triggered the probation, such as inadequacy in assessment, suicide screening documentation, and physical documentation of issued medication (Kommers, 2019). To rectify the issue, the joint commission required the hospital to improve in the area with inadequacy. In the next survey, the improved will be considered, and the probation lifted. To avoid such inadequacies, an internal audit of different processes and procedures is important to ensure they are above the minimum standard.
