As Christians, we have all fallen short of the glory of God and to save ourselves, we need to redeem ourselves from our sins through Jesus Christ. Through Christianity, we learn that God created everything in the world for a purpose and everything in it has an intrinsic purpose. The theory based on moral agency is applicable to the nature of humans in that, individuals have the capacity to act as moral agents as they have the ability to make moral judgements on whether their actions are right or wrong. The gift bestowed upon humans by God, enables them to have a perfect understanding of nature, conscience and derive the purpose and the will of God for creation. According to the Bible, God created the world out of nothing which means that human beings have create value out of scarcity. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the cross is an indication of how God redeemed us from our sin and to achieve the intrinsic value and human dignity, we must work towards redeeming others from ignorance, social biases, diseases and poverty among others.

To help her make a decision, Jessica is using the theory based on human properties which states that life begins at fertilization and regardless of age, humans have a moral right and status. This is where her conviction that all human life is sacred originates from. Jessica also applies the theory based on relationships in determining the relationships between her work, husband and child. Maria is using the theories based on moral agency and human properties. Dr. Wilson is using the theory based on cognitive properties that gives Jessica the freedom to act and make a rational decision and proceed with the abortion. Dr. Wilson is also using the theory based on relationships as he informs Marca that he has an obligation to Jessica as doctor to inform her about her condition and possible actions. Marca is using the theory based on cognitive properties as he states that he will support Jessica in whichever decision that she makes with regards to keeping the pregnancy or proceeding with the abortion.

Each theory has its set of governing principals and the criteria to be used when making decisions. The theory based on human properties and moral agency guides Maria in advising Jessica to proceed with the pregnancy and let God’s will be done. Dr. Wilson on the other hand is using the theory based on relationships where he feels as doctor, he has an obligation to inform his patients of their conditions regardless of how the information will make them feel. The different theories act as guiding principles to Marca, Maria, Jessica and Dr. Wilson in making predetermined decisions for the benefit of both the fetus. These theories are largely in play due to the fetus’s inability to make the right judgement about its condition.

I would agree with the theories based on moral agency and human properties. The theory on human properties stipulates that all human life begins at fertilization. This will theory will guide in the making of a decision that will be in favor of the fetus. What would the fetus want or think based on the current circumstances? The theory based on moral agency will act as the main theory in making the right decision. Jessica has to make a moral decision on whether to proceed with the abortion and this theory will hold her accountable for her actions. Based on the feedback from Dr. Wilson, I believe that all the theories on moral status must apply in determining the moral status of the fetus as no single theory has the ability to stand on its own and guide Jessica towards making the right decision.
