The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted all the aspects of nursing from students wishing to become nurses, their teachers, and the practicing nurses. Nurses have unique skills and passion for delivering specialty healthcare services to patients (Barratt, 2018). However, the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) is compromising their ability to deliver services at the frontline in against the Coronavirus. RNs during this pandemic require support in two different ways. The first and most important is to ensure that nurses receive the necessary equipment to do their work effectively without exposing them to this unrelenting virus. Another way of making the work of nurses easy and safe is staying at home and observing the rules and regulations to help prevent the spread of the Corona virus.
The shortage of PPE for RNs is a problem that needs to be solved urgently by supporting the Medical Supply Chain Emergency Act (S.3568/H.R. 6390). It is vital to ensure that all nurses across the country receive the necessary protective gear to enable them to work safely in different health facilities (Hill, Crockett, & Circh, 2020). The nurses are in short of N95 respirators, face shields, ventilators, gloves and surgical gowns, and all these are necessary to ensure the safety of our nurses. It has been reported that some nurses have opted to desperate means to solve the shortage of PPEs by using pillowcases and other materials to make masks. Using such materials is a risky business not only for the nurses but also for the patients.

Even though the Defence Production Act is in place, it seems to help nothing because the supply of essential material such as PPEs is still slow and compromises the safety of nurses during this pandemic. It is crucial to recognize the services that nurses provide in our hospitals, especially during this pandemic, and ensure that they receive the appropriate protective equipment to enable them to work safely during this outbreak. It is the responsibility of congress to ensure that all nurses are safe as they deliver their duties by providing them with quality, sufficient PPEs during this pandemic.
