Leadership can be defined as the process to influence the decisions that occurs within a given situation. There are several qualities that the leader should possess so that one can be successful. The leader should be ready to lead but should also act as a team member. The leader should also develop a personal philosophy that assists in defining who they are as a leader and what they want to accomplish. The leader should develop a personal vision as a guidance to realize future goals. The leader should know their mission so as to create goals and motivate oneself to accomplishing them. Values identified by the leader should help one understand what their principles of the leadership. The personal philosophy acts as a guide to define oneself through the construction of a personal vision, mission, and values statement.

Vision Statement

My vision is to be able to make the best life for myself, my family, my friends, and the people around me. Some of the things which I find matter to me are my family, career, and forming good memories. The future presents me with many possibilities and I would like to create and live the best life through hard work, patience, and passion. I hope to retain all the elements of my character throughout with me in the future. As I have my vision, I remember that God understands the plans of tomorrow as it written in Jeremiah 29:11 (New International Version) which states that ““for I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”” Even as I write my vision and plans for the future, I know that God’s plan will prevail and that his plans are the best. I thus continue to pray for guidance so as to understand what God has planned for me.

I also have a vision to be able to serve God through the works of my hands and acts. I want my service to God to be seen in both my professional life. With my career in law enforcement, I hope that as I become a forensic psychologist. Throughout my career I hope that people will be able to see more of Christ in me as I serve those around me and the people within my community. My vision is to become more like Christ and be able to show love, care, and concern to the people I encounter. I hope that people will see how I live and carry out myself and glorify God as a result. As a leader, I want to become someone that is not just a leader but someone that should inspire others to be great and the best forms of themselves.

Mission Statement

My Purpose in Life

The mission statement is based on how to realize my vision through achieving my purpose, the achievements, and leaving a legacy. My mission is to be able to take care of others passionately through portraying of strong leadership skills. This is in line with my purpose in life to become a true leader that impacts the lives of people through a strong character and leadership. I will strive to grow as a leader and to model and inspire others. Throughout my leadership, I will always strive to be a coach and a mentor to others so as to empower and maximize the potential of everyone in my team. I expect that coaching and mentoring should also be used to develop my leadership (Boak & Crabbe, 2019). The principles that I will use to realize such a leadership is hard work, change, passion, and love.

My mission in my family is to be able to take care of those around me. I will contribute to this by showing love and care. I always desire to be someone that continually encourages others and makes people happy. My family will be the driving force that ensures that I do not deviate from the path that I have chosen. I personally encourage myself towards personal growth and showing love to those that are around me. I hope that I will be able to instill those values to the people around me. One character that I embody is that of showing others understanding and compassion when assisting them throughout their challenges in life. I hope to always have these character traits as I navigate throughout the various challenges and successes in my life and family.

What Counts in Leadership

What will really count in the leadership is to have a human touch and understanding throughout the leadership. By showing leadership this way, one will be able to understand and forgive oneself and others when they make mistakes. The leader should follow in the footsteps of Christ where he did not pass judgment to sinners that acknowledged their wrongdoing. The other aspect of leadership that counts is showing emotional intelligence. The leader that shows emotional intelligence can cater for the emotional needs of members of their team by showing care and concern (Edelman & van Knippenberg, 2018). The leader that shows emotional intelligence will ensure that the needs of other individuals have been care for.

Type of Leader I want to be

The type of leader that I want to be is one that understands himself and is able to work well with others. Before understanding others, the leader should fist understand oneself. Such an understanding comes about with being self-aware and knowing personal strengths and weaknesses. Caldwell and Hayes (2016) observe that a leader that is self-ware should add value to others by constantly improving themselves. By having a greater understanding of one’s own capabilities, one can create value to others. My prayer as I always evaluate myself will be like the prayer in 139:23 which states “Search me, God, know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead in me in the way of the everlasting”. As I constantly evaluate myself, I will always be prayerful that God help understand ways that I may be wrong in my leadership and working with others and help me correct them.

I would also want to be a leader that is able to work well with others. Just like Solomon that asked for wisdom in 1 Kings 3:9 who asked for wisdom, I also want to have wisdom so that I may have a good understanding of people and how to manage them well. The good leader should be able to have constructive criticism, be quick to offer praise, and build trust around him (Crawford et al., 2020). Through having wisdom, I hope that I will be a leader that can solve conflicts easily and improve the environment of those around me.

What I want to Accomplish

What I want to accomplish in my life is to realize success in almost every area of my life. I would like to be financially successful and use that money to serve my immediate family and the community around me. I would also want to be successful in my spiritual life and my walk with God where I constantly pray and seek God for guidance. I also want to succeed in the relationships that I have with others by showing love and care to my family, friends, neighbors, and the community. Achieving financial success, success in my spirituality and walk with God, and relationships are key to ensuring that I become the best leader. My desire as a leader is thus to be someone that can impact those around me positively.

Legacy I want to Leave

The legacy that I want to leave is to be the best leader in my personal and professional life. I also want to be remembered as someone that showed love and touched the lives of those around me. As I interact with others in my family and organization, I hope that people will one day say that they have seen the greatest leader. I also hope that people will one day say that I was the most loving person that they met. I thus hope that God will guide me so that my love for others and love for God will not be done through mere words but will be seen through my actions as well.

Values Statement

My personal values will be important as they will help me as I grow and develop. Sun and Shang (2019) identify that persona values are important in leadership as they guide one towards making decisions that are a reflection of one’s values and beliefs. The personal values that I have identified are written in the following list.

Integrity and honesty : As a leader I want the decisions that I make to be guided on the basis of whether I am acting with integrity and honesty.

Wisdom: I want to have wisdom and be able to distinguish right from wrong and fairness from equality as I serve others.

Responsibility and accountability: I want to be responsible and accountable for my actions and the actions of people that I lead and the people in my team.

Hard work and determination: Whenever I work on anything in both my career and personal life, I will work on them through hard work and determination to be the best person I can be.

Respect: I want to always respect others and to treat other people the way I want to be treated.

Optimism: I want to always be an optimistic person that believes in the goals and the ideas that other people can achieve.

In conclusion, the vision, mission, and value statements in the creation of this personal philosophy should guide me towards becoming the best leader and the best version of myself. I hope to become a leader that impacts those around me positively. Even after I have created the plans and outlined the different ways I can accomplish them, I know that God has the best plans for me and I thus constantly pray that he will guide me throughout my life.
