The likelihood of a nail saloon worker to contract an ailment may seem absurd, but nail professional have reported a myriad of public health problems. Common health problems among nail salon professional stem from the posture adopted when dissipating services and the potential hazards associated with the chemical used in nail salons. The wide assortments of conditions that have been reported by nail professionals are caused by the glues, polishes, emollients, and polish removers used in the salon. The health conditions experienced by salon workers asthma and other respiratory ailments, allergic contact dermatitis, reproductive loss, liver diseases, and cancer. Cases of muscle strain have also been reported by salon workers due to the repetitive motions or awkward postures that nail professionals adopt in the course of service delivery. Therefore, without taking proper safety actions, the toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, and methacrylate compound contained in most of the chemical used in the salon result in general ill-health.

Empirical studies have elucidated that collecting public health data is crucial to the mitigation policy and strategy formulation process. However, collecting data from nail salon professional would be difficult given the bulk of their work. Therefore, most of them would be less inclined to participate in a study because it would add to their already hectic schedules. Moreover, most nail professional’s earnings are determined by their effort because there is no standard income. For instance, if one works on one client, it is likely that his or her earning for the day would be the amount charged to the client. In this regard, nail salon workers may be less inclined to participate in a study that does not offer financial rewards.
