National security is a way the government can protect its country against the national crisis. This crisis includes things like a climatic crisis, terrorism, and many others. According to Kennan's book, National Security policy and containment strategy were first practiced during the cold war in the United States to deal with the Soviet threats. The main reason for this was to reduce the expansion of the enemies, and it was practiced from during 1946-1991. The main issue here was how national security policy can be offered during the cold world war. The United States has been the most powerful state since the Roman Empire and their national security policy was remarkable according to Kennan. The power made it vulnerable hence making them be the target. Kennan was known to be a policy maker, and since he was a strategic thinker, he helped the United States in policy making. It was more advantageous since Kennan was a Foreign Service officer and more than a diplomat. The national security policy could have been helped in stating them since he worked in various countries. Therefore, the United States benefited from him. (Kennan, & Mearsheimer, 2012).
During and after World War II national security policy was still needed to protect the United States. National Security will provide security of the United States its citizens and the U.S allies and partners. The citizens will feel safe from terrorists and also it would encourage their allies to be able to invest in them, therefore, boosting the economy. It also provided respect for universal values in their country and also from the other countries. Respect comes by like during the cold war the Soviet Union recognized the United States because of their security policy and containment. It is also clear that the national security of United States was not good enough especially after the assassination of President John F Kennedy in 1963. His murder was probably brought by the racial difference in the United States. Another attack happened when two planes crashed the twin towers and killing a lot of people. It was an act of terrorism. Therefore, this Act made the United States to have a well strategized national security. In the American history, there have also been sectors that needed a lot of security. The people who migrated to the United stated during the civil war never had security (Gaddis, 2004)

The United States became vulnerable when the Soviet Union had the thermonuclear weapons. Their security was compromised, and it was not granted either. Later during the cold war their security resided despite the fact that the Soviet Union and the United States they were at warheads with each other with their missiles. This matter of national security policy should be looked into carefully so that the attacks from the terrorist to be avoided. These policies can be strategized accordingly with the help of American diplomacy and foreign affairs policy. Kennan knew that American’s security can be influenced directly by providing insights since he worked with the Americans diplomacy. Power can also help in the national security policy for example European balance of power have contributed to their countries’ security largely.
According to this research, the issue of national security should be looked into because; first, United States was and still is a potent state in the world. Its state of being powerful will make it very vulnerable and prone to attacks from terrorists and their enemies. After the threats and attacks like during the cold war, the assassination of President F Kennedy and the attack on the twin towers. Since the strategy of the national security is to protect the citizens and their allies. My opinion for this is to strategies the national security from a strategic level and also foreign affairs policy (Gaddis, 2005). Secondly, national security helps the country to be able to balance power. Therefore, it will make the United States to be in good position with its allies. National security also helps the United States to be active and innovative therefore it will grow its economy. Through national safety, the leadership will change since the leaders would want to provide a safety environment in its way. Despite the Soviet Union had a lot of missiles they still became afraid of the united states because of their national security. Therefore, the nuclear attack was neutralized.
In conclusion, the national security policy should be strategized clearly. Since cold war and World War II, national security has provided protection to the citizens of United States, and also it made I the most powerful state in the world. The national security policies also provided an eye opener to other countries by trying to like them. It has reduced the attacks from the terrorists and threats. National security policy is practiced in another state like Europe countries. The economy of the countries also depends on the national security as well. When other countries get to know the condition of the national security, they get comfortable to invest in the U.S since it is a power state (Amy, 2007).
It is recommended that national security should be looked at every year and strategized. Foreign affairs should also be involved in the implementation of these strategies on the national security strategies since they get to interact a lot with foreigners. American diplomacy office should also participate in national security policy. Leaders should follow Kennan’s footsteps like being a strategic thinker and also be influential in the government and help in making the policies like national security assist the state.
