There is no appropriate time to act in a crisis like World War II or the current Coronavirus pandemic. The most important factor to consider is how the current crisis impacts the nation and how the nation stands to gain when it intervenes in mitigation. In 1940, President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) was not pleased with the war situation in Europe and how the Nazis were gaining traction in overrunning the continent. Despite having promised Americans that he would not be joining the war against the Nazis, President Roosevelt went ahead to offer aid to Great Britain after several diplomatic attempts (Glass, 2018).

President Roosevelt acted at a time when Germany could have possibly overrun Great Britain to achieve complete dominion over Europe. This was not the right time to take action, and President Roosevelt should have offered aid earlier despite having taken a neutral stance in the war. The move to form an alliance with Great Britain against the Nazis was reinforced by the thought of communism having more dominion over capitalism. Therefore, the race to determine the true superpower between a communist state and a capitalist state was the main reason for America's aid to Great Britain. Joining the war was more like a statement to show the true power of America against any other potential superpower.

The point at which the decision to intervene in a certain event like war or a pandemic is more of a necessity. The current pandemic situation in the world and America specifically is a clear indication of the necessity to drive action. America has recently been faced with one of the worst health crises in the past few weeks, claiming more than nine thousand lives. Initially, the government under President Trump was hesitant to take firm action, including declaring a state of emergency on the Coronavirus crisis, which cost the nation dearly. The right time to take drastic action should have been at the early stages of the pandemic, considering the severity of the virus, as observed in China. Therefore, such a necessity warranted an effective and drastic response to avoid the losses being experienced currently, especially in New York. America should pool its current resources to offer aid to affected areas, including New York, to curb the pandemic.
