Newark police have been accused of using unlawful methods to handle suspects and innocent civilians on the streets. Their approach of stop-and-frisk has led to racial disparities. This was according to the reports released by being American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey (ACLU-NJ) (ACLU, 2014). A lot of cases on police brutality were reported. The incidents created an alarm, and an investigation was launched. This investigation aimed at finding out why the officers were acting so brutal to the residence of Newark.
There are areas well depicted within the documentary which include; the bad relationship between the civilians and the Newark Police department. According to the documentary on ‘Policing the Police,' those who were being stopped did not feel safe next to the officers. Once they saw a police officer, they would start running (PBS, 2016). Their actions were driven by the fear of how the officers were going to handle them. When the Mayor asked about the reported cases, he was told that there is no credible source of information they can rely on. Therefore according to the officers, lack of knowledge is what makes them treat everyone as a suspect. This is what has created the mistrust between the police and the residences.

Another situation is what makes police to treat everybody violently when arrested. The New Jersey Police Department officer explained why they treat people the way they do. He said that even the police officer does not feel safe approaching anybody in the streets of Newark (Ofer, 2015) . The video on how the officers handle an innocent person was presented to the Sargent, and he acted shocked. The victim was standing and appeared to be harmless. The officers went ahead and mishandled him.
The question that needs to be answered is why police brutality was common in areas with Black Americans? Blacks are perceived as the gang who are more likely to commit crime compared to the White Americans. What I would like to know is how the new class of officers performed.
