In today’s health care setting, nurse managers are expected to be on top of direct patient care. At the same time, they are needed to understand laws and regulations governing the entire umbrella of nursing practice. In regards to nursing informatics, there are sets of legislations that influence the adoption and use of technology. The Affordable Care Act mainly requires clinical facilities to maintain quality healthcare information technology to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of care delivery.

The law mandates the healthcare organization to restructure its systems and procedures to accommodate innovations such as nursing informatics ( Sweeney, 2017) . The process of change, in this case, should begin with the management in collaboration with stakeholders such as employees, partners, donors, and the government ( Biddle & Milstead, 2016) . The realization of possible loss of jobs, some groups, especially employees, may oppose the process. The fear of losing a job to others or computers and machines would cause unrests in the organization. As such, the management can manage resistance through effective communication and collaboration programs with its key stakeholders.
