The study is based on the nurse’s knowledge and awareness in regards to delirium. From the study, the researchers were focused on discovering the nurse’s awareness or they knowledge they hold pertaining delirium cases. From the literature review, I focused on the literature conducted by Hare and colleagues (2008). Hare and colleagues targeted a number of clinical nurses with questionnaires to help them make their conclusions during the research. In their research, they were questioning the nurses to determine their knowledge of delirium and risk factors associated with it. From their questionnaire responses 30.8% were returned a total of 338. Moreover, 64% of them scored 50% and above in the questionnaires. In the risk factors questions, 36.3% scored over 50% while for the knowledge questions, 81.9% scored over 50%.

According to the survey, the orthopedic nurses who had been in a delirium seminar earlier scored better in the general facts section of the questionnaire in comparison to the other nurses who had no prior knowledge on delirium surveys. From the study, it was concluded that nurses had more knowledge regarding the general facts on delirium, however, they were not as knowledgeable in regards to delirium risk factors. Hare and colleague’s literature boosted the research purpose considering that they were able to provide answers as to why nurses are confused in regards to delirium.

Something that caught my interest is the fact that all studies had a closely related conclusion. The best strategy I learned that would help create a strong search for evidence is to interact with the subject under study. Interacting with your subject helps learn more about them hence making first hand conclusions. Thorough literature review is essential as it helps find the best answers to certain problems. I believe that through a good literature review, it is easier to make conclusions based on an expert opinion.
