Leadership is an important commodity that is sought after by numerous individuals. In the healthcare field, the concept of leadership is not different. Many healthcare practitioners are looking for ways to become more effective and stand out as leaders (Northouse, 2016). Healthcare managers are also looking for ways to influence their employees to own and demonstrate various leadership behaviors. These leaders are aware that employees are a vital part of the business. A good example is in nursing homes were employees make up 90% of patient care (NPR, 2002). These employees know of all the patients and their unique needs. Leaders should also empower their workforce to demonstrate leadership behavior as they are the individuals who apply a hands-on approach in the workplaces daily (NPR, 2002). These employees know of all the workplace issues and can create unique solutions if given a chance. Moreover, good employees are credited with smooth functioning in the workplace and thus explaining the importance of empowering employees to exhibit numerous leadership behaviors.
I believe that there are unique leadership types and traits that my followers/employees should practice if they wish to become successful in their career. First, my employees must have a drive for responsibility, and task completion since this ensures that they meet the requirements of their daily workload (Ahmed & Bach, 2014). I also believe that it is necessary for employees to be self-confident risk-takers who are willing to absorb interpersonal stress, accept consequences of their actions and be able to build social interaction systems to meet the set goals (Ahmed & Bach, 2014). These characteristics ensure that employees are able to work together and be innovative in finding solutions to vexing issues in the workplace. I would also like my employees to exhibit technical skills, human skills and conceptual skills as these will ensure they are effective performers with good social judging and problem-solving skills (Northouse, 2016). Employees who have these behaviors and demonstrate these leadership skills are more likely to work better as a team and facilitate organizational success.
