Nursing practice is one of the largest groups of health care providers that require a lot of skills to ensure proper promotion of healthcare and delivery of services. This group requires the help of evidence-based practice to improve their practices. Evidence-based practice is a problem-solving approach to patient care that leads to improved quality of care, professional development of nurses and other health workers and further minimizes costs (Munhall, 2012). However, they are faced with several barriers that prohibit them from engaging evidence-based practice.
One of the barriers to implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) is related to individual aspects. The individual barriers commonly encountered are lack of ability to use computers, lack of time to read literature as well as finding problems finding literature. The lack of time to read literature can develop confusion and anxiety during the actual practice which has contributed to drastic uptake of EBP across healthcare systems (Houser, 2018). Time management is one of the strategies that can be implemented to manage these individual barriers. Nurses should incorporate EBP as part of their daily work and spend time on only urgent and important things. Additionally, they should sites that summarize research rather than reviewing entire articles for themselves. They should also ask their managers to set aside time for their research to keep them up to date with the latest evidence. This will help them to highlight the benefits of EBP if they monitor nurse practice changes using evidence-based research.

There is little that has changed my thinking about nursing research and evidence-based practice. This is because research and evidence is not something that began in nursing but has been going on for quite some time in medicine. I believe that nurses should start using evidence from other professional research to move some issues a little faster. The most helpful lesson I learned in this course is abnormal psych and introduction to sociology classes. This learning has helped me every day in my nursing practice.
