A descriptive research design accurately defines an issue based on a population and situation for study. This type of research design is crucial in the field of nursing study. It helps researchers understand how a problem in the health sector existed when it started before analysing why (Nassaji, 2015, p. 130). This paper focuses on Factors influencing animal bites in Iran: A descriptive study by Dehghani et al. (2016). The study applies a descriptive research design to describe the aspects that trigger animal bites in Iran country. Even though other types of research designs help readers understand the cause of a given problem, the descriptive research approach is practical because it provides in-depth knowledge of the root of a particular issue.
Dehghani et al. conducted this study for five years. They applied a cross-sectional descriptive study to explore all scenarios of animal bites in people from 2008 to 2012 in Semirom, Iran. The researchers relied on data sheets presented in medical care facilities regarding how to fight against rabies influenced by animal bites. The researchers describe the cause of animal bites as a freight feeling in animals in the presence of human beings. Besides, most animal bites are from dogs. The risk factor of the animal bites is that if left untreated, it may result in loss of lives. Most reported cases were from rural and wildlife settings. Students and men are also at risk because they spend most of their time outside. The researchers emphasize the importance of increasing vaccines by the government to people in the area of study. The changes in the management to ensure a decrease in the bites, according to Dehghani et al., is to raise awareness among the public, notably students. Vaccinating people is also another optimal strategy of eliminating infections related to animal bites.

Descriptive design is thus handy in describing a given issue to ensure understanding among readers. It provides in-depth knowledge that is handy to other researchers. This research design is useful in the nursing and medical industry because it informs both the government and health practitioners on what to expect, thus giving room for preparation. Therefore, even though other types of research designs help readers understand the cause of a given problem, the descriptive research method is useful because it offers comprehensive data on the root of a particular subject.
