The scarcity of nurses has been described as one of the biggest threats the health sector is projected to face. The projected shortage is yet to impact negatively on both the nursing profession and to the public. The nursing shortage has been as a result of many factors that include poor workings conditions and long working hours by nurses The nursing shortage will directly affect the general public, the nurse to patient ratio will rise up leading to poor services rendered by nurses to patients. Teamwork in a hospital will be more difficult to maintain and achieve (Allen, 2008). The nursing profession will slowly fade away and the reputation of nursing courses will be greatly affected, the number of students enrolling in nursing courses will decrease rendering the nursing colleges out of operations. The projected impact will affect negatively on the existing nurses who are already in the sector, their workload will increase leaving less space for rest and efficiency during working (Buerhaus et al., 2015).

However, the shortages experienced by the nursing profession, they are working toward a resolution to address the projected shortages. The nursing profession is yet to adopt a resolution of enhancing distance online learning programs. This will allow students with busy lives and family commitments to fully and participate in the nursing courses offered. This will also entice other students who participate in other programs to enroll and participate in the nursing programs. The nursing council through the distance online learning programs will have to improve financial aid to students who specifically participate in nursing programs. Financial pressures experienced by nursing students should be alleviated by allocating more financial aid and add loan repayment programs. This will act as an incentive for students willing to participate in nursing programs. The nursing professionals through the nursing trade unions are expected to push and lobby for higher wages and offer signing bonuses to draw more people to the profession ( Janiszewski , 2003).
