Nola J.Pender developed the Model of Health Promotion in the year 1982. Pender was a professor emeritus of nursing and an author at the University of Michigan. In mid-1970, Nola started studying the behavior of health promotion and published this model in 1982 (Khoshnood, Rayyani & Tirgari, 2018). The Model describes the critical function of nurses in aiding the patients to prevent diseases by bold alternatives and self-care. The model also indicates preventive health measures.

The theory of health promotion represents a systematic way of sympathetic events. It is a set of propositions definition and concepts that clarify these events by demonstrating the association between variables. The model focuses on behavioral outcomes and personal experiences and behavior. The theory is associated with several factors, such as outlook, lifestyle, biological factors, mental health, social, and cultural traits ( Farsi et al.,2019). The model is aimed at increasing the level of health of the patient. It illustrates the nature of people as they intermingle within the surroundings to pursue wellbeing.

The theory is used in education, universally research, and practice. It focuses on aiding persons to attain higher levels of health and encourages the professionals to provide resources that are positive to aid the patients in attaining changes in behavior. The model aid the patients in preventing disease through their conduct and look at some of the ways in which the individual can pursue ideal wellbeing( Khoshnood, Rayyani & Tirgari, 2018). The health professionals such as doctors and nurses comprise the interpersonal surroundings which influence the conduct of a person.

Nurses are key providers of patient-centered resources and education. They spend most of the time with the patients than any other practice team member. If nurses have an ideal plan to aid the chronic bronchitis patient quit smoking, providentially, the x-ray of the chest is clear, and there is no lung cancer that is suspected. Following the plan, the patient would have fewer bronchitis episodes and is capable of breaking a habit that increases the danger for heart disease and for smoking-related cancer.

In conlusion, Pender designed the Model to be a complementary counterpart to the health protection models. The model describes health as a optimistic dynamic state than the lack of disease. It is directed at rising the level of health for the patient. The theory focuses on behavioral outcomes, individual experiences, and behavior-specific knowledge.
