Part A 

There are some nursing theories that have major contributions to the profession, and there is one in particular which influences my goals and values. The theory is the Adaptation Model of Nursing by Sister Callista Roy. She believed that a person is made whole by his psychological, social, and biological components, and the positive environments and interaction has an influence on the individual’s well-being. The theory is used in my career as a nurse and when caring for my patients.

The theory identifies the use of a lot of nursing process steps in assessing the patients’ environment, behavior, interventions, and the environment. Therefore, it can be used in predicting, describing, and explaining excellent nursing practices through the process of integrated nursing process.

The theory fits my professional practice because I often use critical thinking skills to help in the implementation of the best practices which helps in making sure that the patients receive the best and safest form of care.

Part B

Two historical nursing figures who contributed to the practice included Florence Nightingale and Sister Callista Roy. Florence Nightingale developed the environmental theory that stated that the patient’s environment has a big influence on their health outcome. The other hand Sister Callista Roy developed the model that concentrates on flexibility and change because of its link to holistic nursing.

The difference between the two contributions is that the theory by Nightingale is that it concentrates on the patients’ environment while that by Roy looks at every aspect that affects the patient such as the environment, behavior, interventions, and environment.

The two holistic figures have and influence in my profession as a nurse because it helps in determining the factors that affect patients. More specifically, the theory by Nightingale helps me in appreciating the fact that healing is also impacted by the environment (McDonald, 2018).

Part C

The simple differences between the State Board of Nursing and ANA are that ANA provides a representation of a professional board of nursing in the whole of the United States while the State Board of Nursing is an organization that represents nurses in each state.

The roles of ANA include working with the legislature to develop, regulate, plus take stands on political matters. It advocates for nurses to develop standards, code of ethics, and scope of practice. On the other hand, the role of the State Board of Nursing includes nurse licensing, taking disciplinary actions, and revoking licenses after disciplinary action.

The Board of Nursing influences my nursing practice by making sure that I am competent in my practice as a nurse. It requires continuous education and high ethical standards among the nurses to make sure the renewal of their licenses. The ANA also has an influence on my career in terms of establishing the ethical standards that influence my daily practice. It also helps me in improving my knowledge of national healthcare policies.

To renew my license at my state, the basic requirement includes the completion of the necessary paperwork, payment of fees, and a check of the criminal background needs to be completed. However, failure to maintain the license requirements in the state results in disciplinary action where I can be reprimanded by the board. It can then harm my career where it is possible that my licenses can be suspended and is the worst case revoked.

A compact state is one that has an agreement with other states that indicates that a registered nurse can practice in the other state without requiring an additional license. In case the nurse moves to another compact state, then there is a 90-day period to apply for a nursing license in the state and notify the previous state on the change in residence. The non-compact state only allows nurses to practice in the state where their license was issued.

Part D

The main differences between the FDA and CMS include the fact that CMS has the function of setting up affordable healthcare programs to every citizen while the function of the FDA is to regulate drugs and food. The CMS has the function of managing security standards, the insurance policies, and they also handle authorization. The FDA helps in securing the public by regulating the medications prescribed by some CMS clients.

The CMS has been influential in my professional as a nurse in terms of helping me advocate for patients. More specifically, by helping them get affordable insurance through Medicaid and Medicare so that they can get quality care. The FDA helps me through the process of providing the necessary information that keeps patients safe.

Nurses are considered to be the patients’ advocates and have a role in promoting safety when they request for alternative therapy. The process can be through guiding them and providing the necessary information on the therapy. The nurse also has a role of informing the patient that the CMS might not cover for alternative therapy.

Part E

The purpose of the Nurse Practice Act in my state includes making sure that the professional conduct of all nurses has been maintained (Leifer, 2013). It has an impact on my professional practice because it guides me to practice according to the expectations of the profession and ensures that I professionally conduct myself.

The scope of practice for a registered nurse includes assessing patients, making a reasonable diagnosis based on the data collected, and continuous assessment until the achievement of the set goal. It also includes developing interventions to help patients participate in the promotion and maintenance of their health.

Delegation for the RN entails delegation and supervision of nursing tasks which the RN is expected to be competent in and which the person is qualified, licensed, or prepared to conduct.

Part F

The role of a scientist includes the process of collecting information to be used in nursing research. The information can then be used in health promotion, education, disease prevention, health maintenance, and development of evidence-based practice.

The role of a detective involves understanding the reasons for patients’ care and being detailed in assessments and observations. It involves the assessment of patients and developing findings, and comparing the actual findings plus the expected findings.

The role of a nurse as a manager of the healing environment entails understanding the different healing environments and creating a positive environment for patients to heal.

Part G

Two provisions from the ANA includes practicing the profession with compassion and respect for the worth, dignity, and unique attributes of patients. The second includes the commitment to patients (DeLaune, 2016).

The two provisions have an influence in my profession in terms of encouraging me to treat all the patients equally and at the same time helps me increase my commitment to the patients.

A nursing error that is likely to occur includes a medical error where a patient is given an incorrect dosage of morphine that can result in respiratory depression. According to the first provision above, in such a case the patient needs to be shown respect by being informed of the error. The second provision on the commitment to the patient then needs to be shown by trying to correct the error and ensure that it does not happen again.

Part H

The four leadership traits include ethical, listener, cooperative, and dependable. A leader at the bedside indicates the ethical characteristic through aiming at doing the best for patients and not letting conflicts of interest hinder the process. They are also dependable and will do their best to achieve the desired outcome. Also, they cooperate with patients to ensure that the healing process is a success.

When working in a team, ethical quality is seen by being honest with team members. Dependability is also evident as nurses work as per the expectation and they cooperate in a team. They are good listeners as the success of the group depends on the ability to listen to all the opinions to better understand the information provided.

My work environment has an impact on nursing leadership in terms of offering training to help nurse leaders assume different roles. It has an impact on decision making by making sure that every nurse is involved in making decisions. Finally, It helps in professional development by supporting offering financial support to those who want to further their studies.
