I know about a group of older adults, using their retired time to contribute to the community. The group is made up of individuals above the age of sixty-five, both male and female. These individuals are engaged in various projects that support the community. Some of these older adults were great leaders in their time. They form leadership forums, educating the youth about the skills and values they should have, and taking control of their lives. The specific forum has been beneficial, reducing the number of youth in the community engaging in crime and drug abuse, since they are able to choose what they feel is right, instead of following peer groups. The older adults have been taking part in training both girls and boys about equality and introducing them to projects where they compete fairly. Such activities are partnered with their physical exercises, such as in sports.

The group of older adults participates in rebuilding the environment. They are part of the tree-planting project in the community. They have recognized the climate change that has taken place, and they believe that creating environmental awareness may help get back the green environment they had when growing up. The elderly have formed a group where they teach the young ones about religion and cultural beliefs, practices, and values, indicating that it would hold the community together, without losing their culture with the digital age. Some aged individuals, especially women, are consulted for alternative and herbal medication. They still hold on the importance of traditional drugs without the use of current chemicals, which they believe may have detrimental effects on the body. Some older women hold cooking classes, where they keep young girls engaged, instead of participating in activities that may lead to early pregnancies. The group is aimed at maintaining the communities’ welfare, beliefs, practices, and values.
