Dear Madam Senator,
The issue of the opioid epidemic is one that nurses in the state of California continue to deal with regularly. Almost every aspect of the SUD represents a challenge to the nursing fraternity, which is not limited to the dangers nurses may succumb to in their duty.
Personally, the opioid epidemic affects my ability to communicate more openly with patients for medical attention since, in their state of mind, it becomes challenging to hold constructive medical interactions. Secondly, it clouds my judgment in providing medical care to the patients. This is because having been a victim of SUD in the past; my medical interventions are mostly overwhelmed by the empathy I have for the patients (Brozek, 2019). Having been a victim of SUD equally gives me an upper hand in understanding the struggle patients go through, especially when it comes to seeking medical attention in contemporary facilities.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Due to the nature of the opioid epidemic as a SUD, the help I am requesting from the state legislature is the putting up of a special wing in the hospital to deal with the opioid epidemic as the Substance Abuse Disorder it is. Such an arm should be managed by professional psychologists and trained counselors, who in addition to providing the medical intervention required, will deliver the mental, emotional and psychological help needed to help the victims recover (Brozek, 2019). This wing will go a long way in creating awareness on the disorder that opioid abuse is, thereby directing the general nursing stuff to approach such patients with a little bit of more care and sensitivity.
In conclusion, victims suffering from opioid abuse are very much like every other patient and deserve to receive fair treatment and medical treatment without the prejudice and discrimination they may otherwise face from the nursing staff. This can only be achieved through a particular unit designed for them.
Yours faithfully,
Sign,
Name.
