I choose to write on “German Leader Denounces Anti-Immigrant Surge” from New York Times edited on 15 December, 2014.

Purpose

The purpose of the article according to Paul & Elder (2016), it aims at informing audiences and news readers that Chancellor Merkel, a Germany political leader, denounces the present growing and enlarging anti-immigrant disputes and demonstrations in the country. “…there is no place here for incitement and lies about people who come to us from other countries” Smale, A. (2014, December 15), these are the exact words said by the Chancellor while denouncing the protest.

Problem

The problem in the article that made the Chancellor to react is the rising number of illegal visitors in Germany for the past one month. The country has witnessed various demonstrations against German immigrants.

Assumption

Paul & Elder (2016) assumes that, apart from Germany’s low rate of employment, the disagreement in Syria has also contributed to the flow of immigrants in the country. Labour shortage in Germany has also contributed immigration insearch of work.

Point of View

The point of view is that Germany gives asylum to displaced people thus increases refugee population in the country. It also infringes German capability of sheltering refugees through government expenses (Paul & Elder (2016).

Information

The main reason for protest in Germany is the increasing number of refugees seeking asylum after running away from Syrian war. According to Smale ( 2014), approximately 150,000 refugees have entered Germany to ask for asylum.

Concepts

The concept of 1989, according Paul & Elder (2016), the protest that involved the anti-communist in East Germany turns to be the major inciter of the present immigration and refugee protest in Germany. The earlier demonstrations was conducted peacefully and was led to the end of communism.

Inferences

Paul & Elder (2016) infers that Chancellor Merkel’s warning in opposition to protest does not seem effective in preventing the immigrants’ protests. When the number demonstrators were about 10,000, the Chancellor had sent warning to the organizers to stop using their interests to stage demos. Unfortunately, the number increased to 15,000 making it uncontrollable rather than involving the government.

Implications

According to Paul & Elder (2016), the article implicates that the increasing number of people protesting in Germany resulted to a counter demonstration between individuals and the pro-immigrants. Nevertheless, most political leaders more so from Alternative Party have clashed in support of demonstrators from Dresden.

Summary

In summary, the article is fair in giving out information regarding the situation of immigration protest and demonstration in Germany. It further reports how Chancellor Merkel alongside other social democrats denounced the protest organized by the people against the immigrants into their country. In addition to that, the article further reports how Left Party and Greens indicted the Chancellor’s cautious critics. The article favors both sides of the government that is, opposition and the ruling government thus resolving to an agreement on how to solve the anti-immigration protest in the country.
