The development of technology has made the nursing sector very dynamic. Nurses have a special role of accepting the change and managing the change around the health sector. Additionally, managing change usually involves assessing the change, coming up with a project and implementing the project to ensure that the change is beneficial. Moreover, it is essential for a nurse leader to ensure that everyone within the nursing sector is involved actively in the change. Furthermore, nurse leaders should establish a course for the change. The leader should also observe the results of the change to know if the desired objectives of the change have been achieved. Evidently, management of change is important in order that the change is worthwhile (Levin, 2012).
The Change in My Organization
Electronic health records were introduced in our hospital recently. Previously, we used papers to keep most records in the hospital. This new system required that all records of the patient from the name, date of admission to the medical records of the patient be computerized (Iyin, Anastasiia, & Zapivakhin, 2017). Despite the fact that most of us were computer literate, we could hardly understand the complexity of the process. The process of linking all the patients’ records and consolidating them in one file seemed difficult to most of us. Due to this, we underwent a three-week training that helped us familiarize with the electronic system.

Impact of the change on our role
Firstly, the introduction of electronic health records has helped us in reducing the amount of medical errors. Moreover, we have been able to deliver better quality services to our patients since we can now easily exchange information from our desks to those of doctors (Marquis & Houston, 2017). Furthermore, we can now easily access previous records of patients and this has helped to improve our relationship with our patients. The time we used to spend arranging files has hugely reduced therefore we now spend more time taking good care of our patients. Typically, the electronic health record has eased our work at the hospital.
Rationale for the change
The old system was less effective since the records of the patients were in many files hence it was difficult to access them at the same time (Marquis & Houston, 2017). Additionally, the prescription was a little difficult because the doctors could not easily know which medicines the patients were allergic to and the ones they were previously on. Moreover, nurses wasted a lot of time moving records from one office to another. Finally, communication between doctors was difficult because they could not all access the records at the same time. Evidently, there was realization of the much-needed efficiency and ease with which the hospital’s staff and administration were able to discharge their duties.
Management of Change
Firstly, by us being trained on how to use the electronic health records, our leaders effectively managed the change. Moreover, they ensured that the whole nurse body was involved in the training process (Hao & Yazdanifard, 2015). During the period, the nurse leaders took the initiative of moving to every station and ensuring that every nurse grasped each step of the training process. At the end of the process, the training was successful since all the nurses could then comfortably use the electronic health records system.
Suggestion
I believe that by creating a more individualized training process the training can take a shorter period and even equip the nurses with more skills (Hao & Yazdanifard, 2015). To sum up, a leader has a responsibility to be responsive to change and manage it effectively. Additionally, they should create a vision for the course of the change and monitor the change. Finally, the leader should assess the outcome of the change to ensure it is beneficial.
