Paid sick leave is a policy that allows an employee to address their health issues while receiving their regular pay. However, this is a controversial bill and there is no apparent law that binds the employers to implement this policy. In some states, employers are subjected to the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which states that an employee is entitled to up to twelve weeks of paid leave if they are sick or have to take care of a sick relative.

I believe that offering sick leaves to employees is a good idea, benefiting both the employer and their staff. The employer gets to experience higher productivity from their staff because they are much healthier and happier. This measure also increases the employees' loyalty to the employer as it shows that the boss cares about their health and wellbeing. It reduces the turnover rates. If the employees feel cared for and valued they are less likely to quit (Kxan, 2018).

I would vote for a candidate that favored the idea of proposed sick leaves. This is because it not only benefits the business owners but also the taskforce which forms the majority population. It helps to know that the government and the employers are concerned about their health and their families'. It also favors the wellbeing of the customers and citizens and increases their trust in the businesses. It reduces the spread of communicable diseases especially in the food industry as all sick employees are not expected to work. It is unfortunate that the United States is one of the richest countries that has not passed this legislation. Employers are not required to provide any form of leave to their sick staff and this makes the workforce uneasy as they cannot afford to relax during their sick days ("Center for Economic and Policy Research, “The United States Lags the World in Paid Sick Days for Workers and Families.”", 2020). It also affects the country by contributing to the rapid spread of communicable diseases.
