Paraplegia is a condition where the motor or the sensory role of the lower part of the body is impaired. It results from a spinal cord injury or a congenital disorder where the brain element is affected. The man that Jesus forgave and healed has the paraplegia condition as he could not walk.

Pathophysiology of paraplegia- the condition involves losing sensation to temperature, position, pain, and vibration. It also results in the inability to move. The condition also involves paralysis of the bladder and bowel (Carroccio et al., 2003). It results from lower spinal cord illness, injury of the peripheral nerves, or brain disorders such as cerebral palsy. Since the upper cervical area of the spinal cord is injured, it all also interferes with respiration.

In my opinion, addressing the spiritual needs of the patient would be more important than addressing physical needs. It would be better to gain the soul and lose the body. What matters in life is eternal life, which was easier to gain once the patient was forgiven for his sins. However, most people would go for physical healing, as it leads to fulfillment. After years of being bedridden because of the paraplegia condition, most people would prefer the physical needs to be addressed, and they would later seek spiritual fulfillment. However, Jesus cared more about saving the souls of the people than their physical being.

Jesus and the men who carried the patient dealt with him in a careful way, putting him down slowly and Jesus showing empathy about his situation. The same concept should be used in healthcare by showing care to patients without discrimination about their situation or segregating them (Ferngren, 2016). In my practice, I will be empathetic with my patients and at the same time, aiming to incorporate holistic care, where their physical, mental, and spiritual welfare are incorporated.
