Television is essential for every person despite age. It is a source of information that shows the trends not only within the country but at the global stage. Other than the trends, television is one of the sources of entertainment and education that are beneficial for both children and adults. Apart from the benefits which come with a television, this gadget also has many side effects which can potentially harm the viewers. Many research studies have revealed that those who watch TV for the most part of their time tend to conform to the behavioraland culture which are aired on television ( Nightingale et al., 2017). As a result, they tend to get influenced by such programsto the extent that they tend to behave in the same manner as their favorite actors. Television among children has been a debatable issue in the world. There is a section of the population that claim that parents need to, limit the time which is set for children to watch television. These individuals claim that too much time on the screen has a negative impact on the children. However, others tend to ignore this fact and claim that television is suitable for children and no limit should be set for them. Though televisions are essential for children, parents must limit the time frame for children to reduce any chances of negative influence from the television programs and maintains a healthy life for the children.

Parents need to regulate the time their children watch television to reduce the risk of delayed speech. Delayed speech occurs when a child is unable to utter some specific words which a kid of the same age should speak. Undoubtedly, speech is a complex process in a kid, and other factors such as environments and the genes also played a critical role in speech developments. However, watching television has a great impact on the rate at which a child develops a speech. Speech development is enhancing when there is constant communication between the child and the parents, relatives or age mates. However, when a child spends most of the time watching television, there is limited time for communication and interaction with people, and this contributes to delayed the speech. Some may argue that TV does ‘speak.' However, most children are not attracted by the words, but the sound, and picture movements.

Similarly, parents also have to limit the time children spend while watching television to reduce the chances of addiction to the television programs which may translate to ignorance with regards to another aspect of their developments. TV is addictive, and people do find themselves addicted to some television programs to the extent that they skip essential things in their life. The same addiction can also occur among children. When children watch television for the most part of their time, they tend to develop a habit of watching some programs and this make them vulnerable to many health conditions. Such children will tend to ignore other activities such as playing which is critical in their social life. Television also brings about an inactive state( Nightingale et al., 2017). Children spending too much time watching TV have no friends. They do not have time to play or associate with other children. This brings a situation where the kids are dormant, and this is not good for their health.

Also, parents must put a limitation on the time available for children to watch television since too much time spent on watching TV may bring some psychological and mantel growth issue in a child. Learning is essential in children life. Children learn mostly through imitation and interaction with objects and people within their environments ( Blum-Ross & Livingstone, 2016). According to psychology studies, most children begin to develop intelligence when they hit the age mark of five years. At this time, the learning rate increases with interaction. Watching television at this age may hinder psychological leaning and also have some mental issues with a child in twoways. First, children who spend a lot of time watching television do not interact with their natural environment. In this case, it means that such children are not communicating with critical factors which are responsible for their proper psychological and brain development. Such children tend to lack some important aspects of life and developments which have an overall effect on their mental developments ( Nightingale et al., 2017). Secondly, children who spend too much time will tend to adapt to the type of films and programs they watch on the television ( Blum-Ross & Livingstone, 2016). In case such a child watches action and violent movies, there is a high chance that such a child risks developing aggressivebehaviors. Since they learn through imitation, imitating somebehaviorswhich are aired on television programs may be too much for them at an early age. This may end up affecting them.

Parents have an obligation to monitor how theirchildren watch television and ensure that they set time for them to reduce chances of addictions, delayed speech developments and psychological issues which are associated with TV among the children. From the discussion, it is true that television is necessary for children. However, the children should not be allowed to form a habit of watching TV for the most part of their time as this is detrimental for their development.
