All healthcare organizations face a myriad of short and long-term challenges in their operations. Despite this, they all have strength areas that may have served them well. The Baldrige Excellence framework exists for empowering an organization to identify and maximize on its strengths and prepare adversely to face its challenges. The Baldrige healthcare criterion is organized into different categories that represent key areas in an organization. This include: leadership, workforce, strategy, operations, customers, knowledge management, analysis, and measurement. 

Quality management is an important requirement in the health sector, it is the role of managers to monitor all activities and tasks that must be accomplished for the organization to maintain a desired level of excellence (Spath & Kelly, 2016). An area of interest in health care organizations is patent’s safety, a discipline that emerged to prevent and reduce the risks or harm that may occur to patients during the provision of health care. Provision of quality patient care, therefore, involves providing the care that a patient needs when they need it in an effective, safe, and affordable manner. Quality health care should be care that is safe, effective, patient-centric, efficient, timely and equitable.

For a manager to promote organizational excellence in patient safety it is crucial that they develop a strategy on how patient safety practices are to be identified and translated to the institutions goal. It is the manager’s role to ensure that all practice guidelines from professional organizations are incorporated in the organizations patient Safety goals, plans, and practices (Akins, 2019). Also, the manager must ensure that organizational systems for sustaining achieved improvements are in place and improved on a regular basis. 

Customers are the focus of any healthcare organization. Their safety and satisfaction is therefore a priority in any healthcare organization. It is the role of the management to ensure that the institution and its workforce has appropriate knowledge on institutional policies and practices regarding patient safety and that there are comprehensive systems that allow the patients to feedback on any patient safety issues. These channels are important as they help and organization to improve its delivery of healthcare. Managers also ensure that their workforce should ensure that at any given time a customer should feel safe in their hands and all safety protocols should be observed at all times. 

Mangers also uphold and support high clinical performance standard from their workforce. With regards to patient safety practices, the manager ensures that all members of the healthcare organizations follow the necessary clinical guidelines when dealing with patients and evaluates their consistency and performance at specific periods (Akins,2019). The managers should also ensure that there are mechanisms in place that allows the workforce to go through educational trainings on patient safety in different categories. The workforce deals with the patients directly, this means that it is important that they follow the set goals, receive constant training and can be evaluated regularly. 

The patient safety goals in healthcare organizations should be integrated in its everyday healthcare delivery functions. The manager should ensure that institutional mechanisms exist for the continuous monitoring, improvement and sustaining of patient safety outcomes in the organization. In all its operations, an institution should priorities patient safety. This is possible through ensuring that the best practices are applied always, and clinical standards observed. Part of monitoring this means placing the right reporting systems for recording monitoring and tracking any adverse events as well as near misses and their results. These results are used in the organizations improvement plans.
