Both the UTMB and the Creighton University patients policies talks of the right of patients to informed care. The patients have the right to ask questions and get the right information concern the kind of care they receive. They have the right to make informed decisions about the medical care they receive as well as the care providers. Also in both, the patients have the right to know the identity of the care providers. The patients upon request have the right to ask for the identity of the care providers. They have the right to know who takes care of their treatments, including the physician and practitioners. Also, both the UTMB and Creighton University have the patients’ rights to respect and treat patients with dignity and care. Considerate and respectful care is essential in ensuring that patients receive the best care they deserve and one which can lead to rapid recovery. However, the two differ in various policies such as respect for the spiritual rights of the patients which is available in UTMB but lacking in the Creighton University patients policies. 

Policy Documentation 

Informed Consent: The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all the patients’ rights to ask questions and participate in their health care are respected. It aims at protecting the patients from being involved in the treatment without their informed consent. The patient shall not be subjected to any procedures and treatment processes without their knowledge. All the staff and physicians shall be expected to adhere to this policy while handling the patients.

Respect and Dignity of the patients: The purpose of this policy is to ensure that patients are treated with respect, care, and dignity. It ensures that the dignity of the patients is not violated. All the physicians and caregivers shall be expected to at all-time respect the dignity of the patients. 

Non-discriminative Care: The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all the patients receive care without any discrimination based on race, gender, age or even religion. All patients deserve to be treated equally and with respect irrespective of the differences in culture and other aspects. All caregivers are therefore expected to remain committed to fair service delivery and desist from any racist acts. 

Right to Privacy and Confidentiality: The purpose of this policy is to ensure that the patients’ private information regarding the treatment and medication is kept secret and not shared without the consent of the patient. Any discussion concerning the treatment of the patients shall remain private, and the information regarding the patients’ health record shall be kept private unless the patient agrees to have the information shared. 

Right to Information: The purpose of this policy is to ensure that patients receive the right and correct information regarding their treatment and outcome of the process. It aims at ensuring that the patients always receive the correct information whenever they need it, and it is the responsibility of the caregivers to provide such information to the patients and family members whenever it is needed. 

Right to safety and security: The purpose of this policy is to ensure that the safety and security of the patients are provided. Patients have the right to remain secure and safe while in the facility. It is the responsibility of the caregivers as well as the management of the health care organization to put appropriate measures in place to ascertain the safety and security of the patients. Any acts of violent behaviors that could interfere with the safety and security of the patients shall not be allowed within the health care organization.
