Nursing homes are continuously changing how they provide care to patients. Culture changes have enabled the transitioning of care provision to person-centred care for nursing home residents. Most nursing homes are adopting culture change which ensures that patients are entitled to a high standard of care they receive.

In the past, nursing homes were providing care in a hospital setting which only addressed the diagnosis patients were given. This has seen a significant change to a personal centered care which addresses loneliness, helplessness, and boredom of the elderly patients (Koren, 2012) . It is important to provide quality care that improves the life of residents.

Culture change is one of the best ways of improving the quality of care provided to residents and also improve the working conditions of healthcare providers. It encourages the relationship between patients and the staff and empowers the patients, staff, family, and the community at large. The kind of care provided when a nursing home has embraced culture change is collaborative and decentralizes management and improves the care (Thomas, 2006) . This has addressed the care that we provide to our elderly in nursing care where we also ensure that they feel at home.

Culture change eradicates loneliness, helplessness, and boredom in a nursing home. These are some of the things that affect patients’ recovery speed and lower the quality of care that is provided (Koren, 2012) . Recently, I have noted changes in nursing facilities in my area. I recently took my mother to a nursing home to enrol her for home care. She was admitted to the nursing home and when we took a tour, I saw how her face brightened because of the nursing home setting. It looked like a garden full of flourishing flowers and there were children and dogs running all over. Immediately she experienced this, my mother had a smile on her face that I had not seen for a very long time.
