What events, experiences, and teachings have influenced the development of your values and morals?
My experience as a community service worker influenced the development of my values and ethics because the services that I had helped me to develop professional values and ethics and a good attitude towards work in order to meet the needs of the people I was serving. The events such as fundraising for the homeless children in the community enhanced the development of my family values as I saw the need to support children who did not have parents and understood what such families go through. I showed the children that I cared about them in the manner in which I expressed love and compassion We had an event where I was selected to be the treasurer and through that event, I developed integrity because I was in a situation where I could misappropriate the funds but I chose to be honest and account for all the money that I was entrusted to manage. The teachings that I get from mentorship programs both at school and in church have highly contributed towards the development of my values and morals. Such teachings discourage bad behavior and enforce good values and morals such as respect, honesty, love and integrity among others.
How do your personal beliefs regarding moral and ethical behavior influence your worldview (perspective) and behavior?
My morals and ethics have influenced my behavior and my perspective because they have helped me live a positive life. I feel that it is important for people to have good values such as honesty and integrity in order to associate in positive ways with other individuals. Values such as patience have helped me deal with people who are difficult to tolerate at my workplace and many other places. Love creates self-acceptance in people. It is important to love people who we associate with on daily basis because without such values, we cannot be in a position to run our daily activities in a successful manner. I believe that good morals and ethical behavior are critical in all aspects of relationships that we have in the society. Without them, people would live like animals because such values bring the aspect of humanity in people. Values and ethics at the work place help people in organizations maintain good relationships among themselves without having to deal with negative behaviors such as disrespect and use of bad language. They enhance the general positive co-existence and attitude at work as people treat each other with dignity.
My cultural values and personal traditions include characters such as showing respect to the elderly, avoid showing anger, frustration or impatience in public, receiving gifts with both hands, respecting personal space and valuing of time as an important factor in everyday life. Such cultural values have had a positive impact in my behavior in the manner in which I expect to be treated and how I treat others. It is important for people to respect other peoples’ personal space. Taking part in issues that do not concern a person can bring about conflicts between individuals. Cultural values such as receiving gifts with both hands give a sense of appreciation towards the person offering the gift. Aspects such as avoiding to show anger in public have helped me remain calm in situations that rose my anger. By doing so, I have been able to calm myself down even in arguments and this aspect has helped me to solve problems in a much sober manner. My cultural values demand for respect to elderly people and this has shaped my character in general towards recognizing people who are older to me with respect.
How do you respond when others’ values and morals conflict with your own?
I respect other people’s values and morals and I don’t interfere with them because I do not expect them to interfere with my values and morals as well. People have different reasons as to why they stick to their values and morals. I have never gotten to judge other people’s values but incase an individual displays negative values such as stealing and dishonesty, I try to talk to them so that they can get rid of such negative values ( Chan and Wong, 2014 ) . Bad morals should not be encouraged in the society because it encourages negative behavior such as lack of respect and theft.
Discuss integrity, accountability, and ethical behavior in health care. Why are these concepts important in the context of patient care?
Integrity in healthcare comprises of consistency, honesty keeping one’s word and sticking to the principles of professionalism (Nunthawong, 2017) . It is important for people to adhere to such principals even if it seems not easy to do so. Accountability is the manner in which people rely on each other ( Dobel, 2016) and the way in which we relate with those who trust us including Colleagues, patients and the society in general. Doctors should take responsibilities for any errors they make by correcting such mistakes and apologizing to patients in the healthcare organizations. The concepts are important in healthcare because they enhance good co-existence between healthcare professionals and patients at the workplace. A positive work environment contributes towards the health and a quick healing process for the patients ( Deshpande, Joseph and Prasad, 2006). Accountability helps individuals to carry out their roles carefully to avoid getting themselves in compromising situations with their bosses. They form the basis of social contract between the healthcare providers and the society in general ( Nunes, Brandäao and Rego, 2011 ).
