Perspectives in Gerontology involve the study of the aging processes and levels in a bid to understand and have the ability to relate with the aging persons (Azria-Evans, 2001). This assignment undertakes a case study involving Roberta and Olivia and their experiences while in the aging process.
Roberta
It is likely that Roberta will take a little more time to adjust to her new home with her family because of the psychological processes that come with aging people, which influences their social well-being and the ability to adapt to new environment. Considering Roberta had made friends in her previous home and was comfortable with her lifestyle, changing the environment by moving will have psychological effects on her thus making it difficult for her to adopt the new environment. To ensure that Roberta remains psychologically and socially stable, it would be necessary for her family to consider other options other than to move her to a new environment. The options would include finding other funding sources that would help in catering for her healthcare needs. This would be the best option that would help in ensuring that she remains in her home where she can relate to her long-term friends and age mates with a similar social and financial background.

Olivia
The case manager in this case study suggests long-term plans for Olivia's nephew because Olivia is in the aging process and may be undergoing biological and psychological changes that may hinder her from taking care of her ailing nephew. The long-term planning may include other options and assistance that may require taking care of Olivia's nephew when she is no longer able to offer care and support. Additionally, the case manager may consider consulting Olivia's family for help in taking care of the ailing nephew. Olivia's cultural background did not change her way of thinking considering her definition of family. However, the aging process helps in appreciating other people who may not be relatives. Old age helps in recognizing other people regardless of their ethnicity or cultural background (Azria-Evans, 2001). This case study portrays the commonness in the ethnic and cultural mixture within the extended families within the United States as indicated by Oliver and her half-sister.
