Political cartoons were powerful devices artists were using to communicate the political opinions, ideas, and perceptions in the country. Between the year 1790 and 1824 political cartoons were primarily used to depict different political ideologies in the United States.

The cartoon is the depiction of the congressional pugilists that portrays a war between Representative Mathew Lyon OF Vermont and Griswold of Connecticut during the Congress session. The congress representative Lyon was thus charged for going against the alien and sedition act that prohibited any ill will writing against the US government. He was guilty of criticizing John Adams and disagreeing with his intention to go to war in France

The political cartoon is a depiction of critics against the embargo act of the year 1908. The act was passed under the request of President Thomas Jefferson to prohibit cargo to foreign ports. The idea was not appealing to many people, and thus it was heavily criticized.

The political cartoon is a depiction of the election held in 1800 and its grueling campaigns between Adams and Jefferson. “This cartoon depicts an eagle attacking Jefferson, a Republican who supports a loose interpretation of the constitution, as he throws the constitution and other articles into a fire.” The eagle is a representation of patriotic citizens.

Con-g-ss embarked on board the ship Constitution of America bound to Conogocheque by way of Philadelphia is a cartoon that depicts the Congress decided to move the seat of the federal government from its original site in New York to Washington. The cartoon depicts some of the benefits the move may bring to the new location.

This cartoon depicts the federalist partisans being urged by Washington (depicted in heaven) to keep the pillars of the federalists. The urge is directed to both Democrats and Republicans. It depicts the struggle of federalism after Washington’s death.

During the period between the 1970s to 1980s political cartoons were useful in illustrating the political ideology since they were the best means of analyzing the political situation that had minimal coverage in the country. During this time, there was fewer media coverage that is seen today, and most information was passed on through cartoons.
