The American Nurses Association (ANA) advocates for reforms within the healthcare system to ensure that everyone has access to the highest quality healthcare standards. Nurses need the policy makers to realize the true value of nursing at the state, federal and local levels to enact better legislations that will universally benefit everyone. However, I would be much impressed when the government enacts the reform for an aging population.
The reform is a key area of interest since the demographic changes continuously necessitate complex and longer-term care. Notably, health care reform for the aging population will provide better experience for the aged patients through the use of innovative approaches like the application of the latest technology (Rowe, 2016). This is quite interesting because the nurses will expand their scope of practice with an aim of complying with the true value of nursing and its related expertise. Apart from quality of care, the reforms for the aging population will help in avoiding uncoordinated and fragmented care that often lead to unnecessary and controversial hospitalization as regards medical advice.

Therefore, the passage of the legislation will ensure that the government provides insurance coverage concerning comprehensive care for the aging populations that suffer advanced illnesses as they approach their end of life (Rowe, 2016). Again, the aged with advanced serious illnesses will have the opportunity to access quality palliative care through community-based programs involving multidisciplinary teams. Most families will also benefit from public education and awareness creation programs involving advanced-care planning and making of informed choices in accordance with the policy reforms (Rowe, 2016). Hence, the aged will access care that conforms to the standards for advanced-care, which are measurable, actionable, and evidence based because they even involve reimbursements and integrated financing.
