Populism being the most noticeable topic in America's political history, tends to be the most common approach used in political campaigns. It is perceived as an ideology that tries to make a difference between common people and elites (Laclau, 2012) . Populists see themselves on the common people's side, who lack certain privileges that elites can and want to help them get some of the rights and privileges. The 2016 America presidential election was similar to the past ones only that an unexpected candidate, Donald Trump, won it. The same political movement used in campaigns in the past elections was used. He managed to be the fifth person in history, defeating the nationwide popular vote for his presidency. According to Seales (2017), he was the first oldest appointed president with no military experience, political experience, or existing public service, making it unique from the past years.

Populism is nothing new in American politics, and for more than 40 years, it has been used by candidates to garner more votes during elections. Populism can be traced back to 1849, when there existed a party known as the Know-Nothings (History, 2019) and still manifested today, through people like Joe Biden, who is trying to mobilize people against the ruling power. Through the years, populism has become a trend and has often inspired reforms, although it sometimes brings citizens hostility. The populism establishment will continue to exist as it worked in the past by accepting political changes occasionally but not the system entirely.
