Frank Lloyd Wright made efforts of creating new architecture based on his view of materials, layout and function of a design with respect to whole or part of the design and the environment (Treiber, 2005). His designs were made with a clear indication of theme and purpose because each building was made to serve a particular purpose thus he was against traditional designs. Wright carefully chose the materials he used; the choice was on basis of strength and properties of the material. He also preferred using materials in its natural form instead of artificially modifying them, for instance, he discouraged carvings and painting of wood.
Rudolph Michael Schindler practice reflects an appreciation for traditional architecture. His design works were based on an architecture that portrayed a culture, landscape and climate (Park, 2006). He designed buildings with three forms: picturesque buildings based on their outward appearance only, academic buildings based on the design of symmetry and rhythm and organic based on inner design as well as outer design with incorporation with the environment. He did his design on location with empty space hence the term space design and the buildings appeared as an extension of the location. He was against the building of the basement and said that it was dark and unventilated. Schindler’s design materials were based on local and regional availability. He used materials with shorter lifespan claiming that the design’s form of thought would be permanent.

Albert Frey designs were based on producing good architecture with minimum materials and effort with little maintenance (Rosa, 1999). He designed architecture to match external surrounding and not dominate the environment hence his design portrayed a way of living as well as adaptations to the surrounding. He put effort to meet dweller’s satisfaction spiritually. His choice of materials included readily available or industrial product which was machine made.
