Recently, the Supreme Court upheld President Trump’s travel ban. The ban predominantly affects five Muslim countries; Somalia, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Iran, and two non-Muslim nations; North Korea and Venezuela (Martosko and Chamber 2018). The article presents the constitutional power vested in the president over immigration and the power given to him by the Congress. The article ascertains that part of the immigration law provides the president with the broad authority to suspend or restrict immigrants for the safety of the nation. However, critics urge that the ban is aimed at discriminating against the Muslim community. Immigration and civil rights activists urge that the ban violates the US Constitution's guarantees of religious rights as the travel ban essentially targets Muslims. The article also outlines how different nation, political figures, and the media reacted to the ban.
The law involves the constitution, the president, and the Supreme Court. Thus, the issue presented in this article applies to the material in my textbook. The material in the textbook clearly outlines the powers of the president, the constitution, and the roles of the Supreme Court. This article presents all of this. The constitution clearly describes the Immigration Law which backs the president’s power on immigration. The ban is crucial to protect the national security of the United States as well as to deter terror attacks. It is lawful and constitutionally right to defend our homeland. This is the reason as to why the Supreme Court upheld the travel ban.

The article presents the issue of the travel ban. It clearly states how the president is vested with a lot of power to ensure national security. From my point of view, I feel it is crucial to protect the national security from terror attacks, and thus I support President Trump’s travel ban. The inclusion of North Korea and Venezuela in the ban and the exemptions of green card holders, those holding valid visas, and students from the ban prove wrong the critics that the travel ban is aimed at discrimination against Muslims.
