In his speech after the terrorist attack on American soil on September 11th, 2001, President George Bush made an effort to encourage the American citizens that despite the crisis they were facing at the moment, they would overcome. In his speech, he recognized the victims of the attack and their value to the different places they stayed and worked as parents, business people, doctors, officers of state and the police. President Bush also expressed anger and sadness on behalf of the American people, and he made it clear that the nation would not bow to anyone who threatens their freedom since America was anchored on the principles of democracy. The essay below is an analysis of the speech content that covers the character of the American people, and the resolve that the President had made to counter terrorism.

The audience of his speech was the American citizens and the victims who had survived the bombing. He noted that their resilience was stronger than any force and he commended all those who were taking part in the rescue mission for their courage despite the terror that was reigning at the moment. Therefore, the President showed that the American people would not bow down to intimidation from people who undermined the values of democracy.

Moreover, he noted that the act of terror was a deliberate act that was meant to end life and shake the foundation of America as a nation. He explained that the act did not scare America, but instead, it had motivated it to defend itself and what it believed in since the spirit of the nation had not been shaken. The reason America had been targeted, he noted, was because of the many opportunities it offered to its citizens and the whole world and also because it served as a beacon of freedom. In this statement, he uses phrases like, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundation of our buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.” This serves as encouragement to the people, and it shows the unity that has been put to ensure that America is prosperous.

Thirdly, he went ahead to explain the measures his government had put in place to ensure the future security of its citizens within the country and around the world. This served as a warning to the terrorists as it showed that America could take care of its people and deal with anything that threatened their security. The fact that he made it clear that businesses would resume as usual on the next day showed that America had been hurt physically, but the spirit of the nation and its resolve to move forward had not been touched. This was a connotation that showed that the citizens of America were determined and terror was not something that would deter them from achieving their dreams in business or education.

At the end of the speech, he made it clear that there would be no distinction between those who had committed acts of terror and those who harbored them in their houses. It was a statement that he made with anger, and it proved that his administration would not tolerate acts of terror on the United States. He also appreciated the condolence messages that had been sent to America, and it showed that he was ready to work on a foreign policy that would involve other nations who were interested in countering terrorism for the sake of peace in the world.

On account of the above points, it suffices to conclude that President Bush offered consolation to the American citizens after the terror attack that led to the loss of lives and property. He also made it clear that America was anchored on unity, resilience, value for democracy and care for every citizen.
