Managers, leaders, and team members engage in different decision-making processes in their daily endeavors. Each decision has to be in line with the organizational goals as well as individual desires. In most cases, the decisions made are in the form of response to situations that call for various options. However, everyone has to make decisions depending on the path that they want to take currently and in the future. The decisions that one makes are guided by principles that are learned out of various circumstances in life. In this paper, the main focus will be on principles that guide decisions that I make in life.

The three personal values and beliefs that guide my decision making are utilitarianism, universalism, and justice procedures, and compensation. The principle of utilitarianism guides my life in all the things that I do. This is where I focus on making sure that my actions are morally right, especially if the results are excellent and acceptable. I endeavor to ensure that the benefits of my actions are higher than the costs. Besides, the actions have to be logical when presented in any situation (Zsolnai, 2011). The inspiration behind this principle is my mother who brought me up by always doing what is right and condemning things that are embraced in the society but gained by illegal means.

The second principle on universalism has guided me in most of the initiatives that I undertake. I always want to consider the welfare of all people involved in a decision-making process. This happens especially when the decisions to make will affect many in the end. The needs of people in any decision-making process are essential because they have to make choices as well. I have embraced this principle because it helps me consider the human being's needs and values to stump authority where needed. The inspiration behind this principle is my country governor. He is always well conversant with the people's needs and takes notes of what they want before making a final decision.

Justice procedures and compensation is the third principle that guides my decision making. This principle is based on the fact that everyone needs to be treated equally (Moss, 2011). Justice is important because it is a way of providing opportunities to everyone who deserves it. The compensation only comes after one has attained the relevant rules and assigned tasks. At the same time, any form of punishment that one gets is only after harming others or going against the law. The inspiration behind this principle was my cousin as she was fired after a colleague engaged in fraudulent stealing of the organization's money. This led to her being suspected and unjustly fired for a wrong she had not committed.

The two individuals who influenced by values and beliefs are my mother and the county governor. The lessons that I learned from these two individuals have had a lasting impression in my entire life. I was brought up in a humble family that was not doing well financially. Therefore, going to school was a problem for me. I was doing well in class, but most of the items that I used for my assignments were stolen. I stole pens and pencils from other students to do my assignments and deliver them on time. When my mother knew about it, she punished and advised me only to use the right means to achieve good outcomes.

I always take my time to listen to the way my county governor solves issues in our society. Each of his speech is followed up by support and help from his subordinates. For instance, when our country lacked a proper sewerage system, he sought ideas from experts in the county. The experts came up with ideas on how to handle the situation promptly, saving our livelihoods. This is something that I have also embraced in my line of work. Even though one is a leader, he or she has to utilize knowledge from others to make the right decisions.

As a future nurse who wants to obtain a BSN and venture into trauma management, the principles have been of great help to me. Utilitarianism is important in nursing because it helps in doing what is right to get positive patient outcomes. Patients are vulnerable, and that means they expect positive outcomes from the proper medication that they get. The principle of utilitarianism will help me in case I become a leader in the nursing departments. It will guide me in focusing on my subordinates' needs and those who have a positive mind for the health institution's development. The nursing career is full of errors, and many are punished for it. For instance, several nurses have ended up in jail for the death of a patient. Therefore using justice as my guiding principle will help fight for the rights of all nurses who are convicted by mistake as they struggle to provide quality health care to patients.

In conclusion, decision making needs one to be well conversant with his or her principles. Embracing the right principles lead to better expectations and outcomes ( Loreggia et al., 2018 ). Responding to situations needs one to act in the right manner by following the utilitarian principles (Henderson et al., 2019). At the same time, it calls for the inclusion of other members under the universal principle. Justice needs to be a principle to uphold because many have had bad encounters in their line of work and are never aware of what to do. Therefore, I believe that my decision-making principles are appropriate and will help me in my nursing career.
