Correction Corporation of America runs private prisons in the criminal (in)justice system, a non-government organization. The private prisons are secretive hence do not release their records to the press for public awareness (Reveal, 2016). Therefore, reporters are prohibited from getting into the facility. Private prisons exist because America has a high criminal record; hence most people are admitted to correctional facilities. Since there are fewer correctional centers compared to the number of inmates, the government allows and promotes the venture of private prisons.
Even though the government allows private companies such as CCA to manage and open correctional facilities, they do not follow up on the management of such facilities. As a result, such centers are managed inhumanly. The guards are like inmates despite being outside the bars because they are underpaid and lack defensive tools (weapons) from dangerous criminals (Reveal, 2016). Prisoners also undergo a tough life because they have no rights while in the centers especially if one has no money to take care of themselves. First, the food given to prisoners is considered gross by the management; hence guards are advised to avoid it (Reveal, 2016). Guards are also trained to be hard on the prisoners regardless of whether one is right or wrong when caught up in a mess. Ideally, private prisons have a lot of money because of the support they get to run such facilities. Nonetheless, both prisoners and guards pass through a hard life of threats to riot and stabbings. Hence the facilities are not safe for both parties.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
In conclusion, since private prisons are part of the criminal justice system, there should be transparency on the management approach. Besides, prisoners and guards should be treated humanely and rightfully. Since the guards deal with highly dangerous people such as murderers, they should be allowed to have weapons and better wages to protect themselves. Weapons will help them protect themselves from incoming danger from inmates, while decent wages will prevent them from taking bribes from prisoners. Therefore, the existing private prisons in America fosters criminal (in)justice system.
