Elmore Correctional Facility, as suggested by its name, is a men's medium-security state based in northern Montgomery Elmore, Alabama. The facility is capable of housing 1,176 inmates, an aspect that gives it an unpleasant history of being overpopulated but understaffed. The facility was opened in 1981 (Alabama Dept Of Corrections. The inmates in Elmore are often provided with drug and treatment classes, education on mental health services, training on self-help programs, which include work opportunities within the facility especially in the recycle operations.
