Part One
How would you approach your new role to improve staff morale on the unit and work effectively with your nurse manager?
As a nurse in the case, I would both understand what motivates workers both intrinsically and extrinsically. I would also understand what motivate my teams. The Advent Health University (2017) argues that in this manner, I would come up with goals for each individual and collective goal for the teams and group activities. I would reward good effort accordingly. Incentives would be appropriate for the groups. Grants and also promotion to a supervisory role would also be my strategies to motivate staffs. Recognition for a positive effort will also be important (Roussel, 2016). I would also delegate work to allow workers to understand my level of trust in them. As for my autocratic boss, I would not try to change the style of management but would understand and avoid taking matters personal with the manager. I would instead engage in dialogue to solve matters than conflicts.

Part Two
Based on the literature you have read what is the difference between a leader and a manager?
What managers display to their workers makes them differ. Leaders work by setting goals and inspiring people to achieve them. Managers assert their control to meet objective and also define a path for the workers to meet a shared goal. However managers believe in a structure or system to help in achieving objectives. As a leader believes in workers, a manager believes in business aspects such as administration (Roussel, Harris, Thomas, 2016).
Discuss some challenges you have as a new leader and identify three strategies you can use to try and overcome them.
The transition into a new management role in the same environment where one was a mere employee is challenging. Such a manager must deal with employees who refuse work and expect favors based on the past relationship (Roussel, 2016). Besides, such a leader will face a challenge while shifting from a staff to a manager. Also, the nurse leader will have a difficult task assembling a good team for a prosperous career as a manager because of the past relationship with the staffs. Inviting troublesome employees and engaging them in dialogue is critical to solving the problem of employees who jeopardize the work ( BRADLEY University, (n.d.) . Furthermore, setting boundaries and having clear goals would help in transcending to management roles. Finally, delegating tasks would be a proper way to assemble a focused team for a prosperous career in management as a nurse.
Would this transition be more or less difficult when you are familiar with the unit and the staff?
The transition would be difficult with a familiar unit and staffs because it will be difficult to adjust to a level where staffs view you as a manager and not a colleague.
