My personal definition of professional nursing is holistic care that ensures a relationship between a nurse and patient, which speeds up healing. It also means the application of scientific knowledge and skills in caregiving, promoting social justice through advocacy, and an informed approach to healthcare.
Some of the factors that will influence my socialization into professional nursing are the elements that encompass professionalism, for example, accountability, autonomy, culture, and the social construct (Killeen & Saewert, 2007). Since professionalism is the embodiment of specific values, feelings and combining these with professional skills to deliver evidence-based care, I believe a few factors related to this will influence my socialization. They include internal motivation, professional identity, and educational experiences (Zarshenas et al., 2014). I also believe proper integration of theory into practice, and a sense of belonging could positively reinforce my nursing socialization.

Mentoring in nursing is one of the most important factors that positively influence professional socialization (Madison, 2009). Different mentors, both those I can physically interact with and those I can walk in their footsteps due to their positive influence in the world, are individuals who will help me in positive socialization. Current leaders in professional nursing, leaders who embody servant leadership and professionalism at the workplace and beyond the nursing profession, could be target mentors. As a person who prefers direct interaction, enlisting for help would involve contacting the mentors and making a formal request to be mentored.
Besides positive collaboration that ensures socialization, I and my support network can promote positive socialization by eliminating barriers to professionalism. This can also be achieved through ensuring consensus between the support network and adhering to the principles encapsulated in the wheel of professionalism in nursing (Killeen & Saewert, 2007).
Nurses need to have positive professional nursing socialization because it makes them better care providers. It also broadens their understanding of the different healthcare challenges, allowing them to devise strategies to better counter such problems.
