Over the years, the American Nurses Association (ANA) has fought tirelessly to fight for the scope of nursing practice. In the recent years (2016), the ANA has been working to remove geographic and practice setting limitations for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) . These regulations are done to protect the nursing profession and to remove any limitations that are regulated by the law. These regulations will have an impact on my practice as a future. To begin with, the changes in the U.S population profile will need great shifts in the delivery systems. Removing geographical barrier in this case will allow me to move from state to state delivering quality healthcare without any restrictions. To add on this, removing the practice setting limitations will greatly improve primary care in various states. This will give APRNs an opportunity to deliver patient-centered treatment while at the same time provide community-based care APRN (NCBI Resources, 2016).
For a long time, the involvement of APRN’s in delivering services has been hindered by various barriers such as state laws, outdated insurance reimbursement models and federal laws. The involvement of ANA in this fight will greatly relieve future APRNs off the barriers created by legislature while at the same time provide privileges, reimbursement, education, training and licensure. The constant and consistent education will also allow me to better my practice as an APRN and deliver the best services under my jurisdiction. The health sector is a vital component in the society that requires a lot of collaboration in both the private and public sectors to ensure holistic health is provided (American Nurses Association 2016).

The current state laws are outdated, and this makes it challenging for an APRN to provide quality service the patient. I believe removing such barriers will make me be a better APRN. For instance, laws that restrict APRNs to work under a collaborating physician restricts provision of quality healthcare services especially in marginalized areas where physicians may not be practicing. In Nevada for instance, a NP can work without the supervision of a MD and this has seen a lot of traffic in the state (National Council of State Boards of Nursing, 2018). Additionally, I would love to be part of the Nevada Action Coalition and with elimination of barriers such as legislative laws that limit the scope of nursing practice, I believe both the clinical and community nursing experience will be exceptional at the primary care level.
