Rivière, Gillette‐Guyonnet, Andrieu, Nourhashemi, Lauque, Cantet, & Vellas researched in 2002 and published in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry . The researchers identified the nursing problem of aversive feeding habits of Alzheimer's patients and determined intervention methods that could help AD patients. It also helped determine family stress and cognitive impairment can assist in forecasting which AD patients living at home will develop AFBs. The primary aim of the study was to examine the predictors of aversive feeding habit that occurred in a one-year interval among AD patients residing at home under the care of a caregiver. The study was qualitative and used various tests strategies such as logistic regression, t-tests, and correlation analysis was used to analyze the data. The patients, 224, were recruited in multiple hospital facilities in Barcelone, Brescia, and Toulouse in Europe. The PICO(T) question : which psychosocial/cognitive interventions can help forecast which AD patients living at home will develop AFBs?

The literature review included past and present research and observations. These supported the relevance of the research in nursing to create an understanding of their peculiar feeding habits about their health condition. Past research indicate that caregivers have a strong and dramatic effect on the course of AD, especially on the severity of their behavior and institutionalization.

Methodology and measurement of data for the research involved caregivers assigned for the research at the facilities observed and reported on their observation of the patient's. Various tools were used to assess patients. They included the Mini-Mental State Examination and Activity of Daily Living. Measurement was carried out by the use of the Instrumental Activity of Daily Living. By the use of the IADL, the patient's abilities were measured regarding their traveling ability, house-chores ability, and shopping ability. The patients were followed for one year. Cornell scale was used to evaluate their neuropsychological status. The researchers found that family stress and cognitive impairment can assist in forecasting the type of AD patients at home and those who will develop AFBs. According to the researchers, nutritional empowerment entails the best framework for preventing AFBs during AD. The primary aim is to enhance a patient's quality of life.

The study formed an essential analysis in the nursing field, regarding caregiving, functional, and psychologic evaluation of AD patients. It also helped in highlighting the necessary support mechanism towards enhancing a patient's quality of life.

The study's relevance and strength relied on the high quality of methodologies and tools used in analyzing and evaluating observed and collected data. The main limitation of the study was the absence of the researchers during the data collection. The reliance on the caregivers to report on the patient's condition may hinder precise data collection and reporting.
