Food safety and nutrition are at the core of the health of a people. Unfortunately, unsafe food continues to threaten the health across the globe. According to the WHO report of 2017, more than 200 diseases are caused by the bacteria, viruses, parasites, and chemicals contained in unsafe food. The report also claims that 1 out of 10 people which is approximately 600 million people fall sick after eating contaminated food. Supply of contaminated food is, therefore, a significant menace that must be curbed. The resources channeled to the public health sector to control the supply of contaminated food should address the following;

Building and equipping laboratories to test the quality of food before consumption would largely reduce the use of contaminated food. Systems should also be put in place to ensure that they respond appropriately to the risks and emergencies related to contaminated food supply. For example, responding to reported cases of illness due to contaminated food.

Creating collaboration among the sectors involved in public health and food industry, for example, livestock production agriculture. The partnership may be established through creating joint laboratories and sharing in implementing the food safety policies such as regulating production, testing and training of safe production methods and handling of food.

Public health funding should be used to evaluate the technological methods used in food production and processing to ensure that they are safe. Proper public awareness should also be used to provide that the public is alert and able to handle the food to avoid contamination.
